Silver Dawn’s obsession with music was fostered by her music aficionado and physicist father who instilled a sense of reverence for precious vinyl and the eclectic recordings they contained. Encouraged to experiment and question as a child and allowed to play with fascinating equipment brought home from NPL, she wondered about the ‘mathematics of vibration in time’, which is music, and how this can evoke such strong feelings in our bodies, images in our minds and make us want to dance.

 

This curiosity led her to study jazz and composition at college, learn about the physics and history of music, learn songwriting, join choirs, free jazz jams and samba bands, to write and play in post-punk and experimental bands and to learn music production.

 

When making music, she tries to explore what a sound suggests it wants to be and to release its potential. In so doing she finds memories and feelings are triggered, which can’t be accessed in any other way, and the exploration of sound becomes a journey, into a deeper of understanding herself.
